Whether you’re new to the adventurous game of golf or you have been playing for years, you may be wanting to buy some new golf equipment. This guide will show you what you actually need to play and even throw in some pointers on the best golf gadgets out there.

Putter
A putter is used to hit the golf ball if it’s already on the grass (known as “on the green”). There are some very nice putters out there but don’t go by price or name brand. Go into a store and feel the putter for yourself. Take a few low swings in the aisle (make sure you don’t hit anyone). Don’t worry about looking like a fool. You’ll actually look like you’re a professional if you’re dressed correctly. People will stop and stare at you, whispering to themselves “Who’s that golfer? Have you seen him before? He looks amazing.” A putter should feel nice to you and it should feel comfortable in your hands. If the first one you try doesn’t meet your specifications then try some other ones. Hell, if that store doesn’t have a single putter that you like then go to a different one. It can mean the difference between an average game and the best game of your life.

Driver
A driver is for starting the game and hitting the ball off of the tee. Once again, go to several different stores and try them out in the aisles. If one doesn’t work for you then move on to the next one. A driver isn’t as important as a putter but it can still improve your game by far if you have a good enough driver. You can start the game off in your favor by hitting the ball as close to the hole as possible so that you can easily make it in.

Iron
There are many irons, ranging from one to nine and as each number gets higher, the difference between a 90 degree angle gets smaller. Irons are used mostly for getting the ball unstuck from the base of a hill or fishing the ball out of a lake. Irons can also be used to reposition the ball back on the grass so that you have a better chance at knocking the ball into the hole.

Utility Club
A utility club is designed to replace nearly if not all of the irons in a golfer’s set. The utility club increases your range, stability, and accuracy when swinging your club and it will help you perfect your game so much that when you play, everyone who watches you will be amazed at your capacity to hit a ball. The utility club is a new concept when it comes to golfing and it’s rapidly gaining support among golfers worldwide.

Wedge
A wedge is similar to an iron but it has a flatter, sleeker head at the end of it. A wedge is used for fetching the ball from rocks, hillsides, dirt, or wherever else is may land that you don’t want it to be. A wedge is used instead of an iron when you need to get it out a tight corner or just want a sleeker, more accurate, more forceful hit.

Clothes
Believe it or not, studies show that golfers who dress appropriately are more able to play golf and they win on more occasions than those who do not dress appropriately.

Shirt – It’s customary in golf to wear some sort of green shirt and tuck it in. Usually they also wear a thin, black belt with a gold buckle to add style to their golf swing (the buckle reflects the sun light when you turn and it makes you appear to be of high class). You may be tempted to wear a white shirt but this would be a bad idea as sometimes when you swing your club, grass can get knocked up onto your shirt leaving nasty grass stains that are hard to get out.

Pants – You’ll notice that on television, golfers wear plaid pants or some sort of plaid on their clothes. This is in reference to the Scottish kilts, the Scots being the ones who developed the sport. Most real golfers usually just wear kakki or some other loose fitting pants. This is so that when you swing your club, your body isn’t held back by the tense fabric of denim jeans.

Head Gear – You may want to get some protection for your head considering there’s hard balls being tossed around at incredible speeds but most golfers aren’t worried about this fact and go with a traditional viser or baseball cap. Look at Tiger Woods! You don’t see him walking around with a football helmet on.

Shoes – You’ll want to get some shoes that grip the ground. These types of shoes are called cleats and can improve your golf game by make sure you don’t slip on the grass as you swing your club.

Carry Bag
When choosing a carry bag, you will want to pick one that is able to carry all of your clubs in an organized fashion and is easy to carry around the golf course. There’s nothing more humiliating then stumbling around the field with an overflowing bag of clubs and is too heavy for you to carry by yourself. You will want your equipment to be able to easily fit into the bag in a way that you have easy access to it but other people can’t see what’s in it.

Golf Balls
In our modern society, golf is no longer limited to a cheap piece of plastic. You can now buy golf balls that come with a GPS locator so that whenever you lose your ball, you will always be able to find it again. This helps not only if you knock it into a lake or river but also on the golf course itself. You may even be able to find one that can tell you what angle it’s at from the hole and also tell you what amount of force you should apply to the club in order to knock it in on the first try.

Shining Kit
In order to keep your clubs in tip-top shape, you will want to purchase a club shining kit. A club shining kit will allow you to keep any unwanted rust off of your clubs and will also help you clean out any grass stains or other undesired specks. A shiny set of clubs will impress anyone who’s watching and more importantly it will help your golf game by getting anything off of it that might effect your swing. Things like dirt, grime, and rust can definitely make it harder to both swing the club and aim it in the right direction, especially as wind plays a factor.

If you follow this guide to the T (no pun intended), you should be playing like the pros in no time. Amaze your friends, impress your boss, or humiliate your opponents by breaking out the best golf equipment around.
